The Catalan designer Antonio Mir\u00f3, an emblematic figure of Spanish fashion, died at 74 years, after a career of half a century that took some of his creations with a resolutely \u00ab\u00a0Barcelona\u00a0\u00bb style to international catwalks, announced Thursday the Minister of Culture.<\/p>\n
Son of a tailor, the Catalan designer opened his first store at the age of 20 in Barcelona in the late 60s. In 1986, he creates his brand which quickly acquires a very good notoriety which pushes him to present on the international podiums. He was one of the first designers to introduce people from the street in his shows.<\/p>\n
In 1988 he received the Crist\u00f3bal Balenciaga award for the best Spanish designer.
\nIn 1992, he made all the costumes for the Barcelona Olympic Games ceremony.
\nIn 1997 he designed the new curtain for the reconstruction of the Gran Teatre de Liceu.
\nIn 1999 he founded the Association of Fashion Designers of Spain with ten other designers, with the aim of improving the productivity and image of the sector outside the Spanish market.<\/p>\n
In 2000, he received the Fad Medal, awarded by the Association of Industrial Design for the Promotion of Decorative Arts for his entire career.
